Thanks Robert! Great to hear from you! I’m confident you are doing likewise, keeping God interesting and relevant to all the wonderful pupils at BC, and of course serving with Extra Cover!

Apologies that it has taken this long to say anything in response to your very interesting accounts of life in Mada and on ship. As others have said, I knew you would find adventure and appreciate your surroundings. An open road and a bike are usually enough!
Our big news is that Simon is getting married on 7th May here in Edinburgh. His lovely bride, Amy, shares the call to south east Asia. They plan to return to HK within a year of marriage.
I still meet up with SBS folks and help from time to time.
Blessings on you. I look forward to your next newsy report.

Donald,

Great to hear from you! I’m missing the snow but getting out and watching the local fishermen in tiny local boats always makes up for it. Thanks for reading!

I enjoy my work here in Ann Arbor and all the cultural events, but it’s certainly less adventurous than your job on the ship. Here we have normal Michigan winter weather: about 4 inches of snow and minus 8 Centigrade. I see you enjoyed your time off over Christmas. My friend Marilyn and I will visit my mother in Stobars Hall when we go to England in April.
Donald

Jacky!!! So great to hear from you! I teach 3 more boys than girls though throughout the school the ratio is pretty balanced. Agreed with Mada, though there seems to be less wealth to go around than say in Borneo…that their highest denomination bank note is around USD3 says something… I teach the kids of the ship staff, I’d not be much use teaching local kids as their language is Malagasy and French…eek! I’ll be on the ship in Madagascar for Christmas, you? Have a wonderful Christmas!!

Of course we all knew you would find the positive aspects of whatever situation you found yourself in and whatever work you did. I am so happy you are loving it. Do you teach any girls? The photos are of boys only, being a science loving girl I hope you do! It is so sad to see such a beautiful country mired in corruption so that only a few can enjoy the bounty that the island has to give. The rest struggle to exist and it doesn’t need to be this way. Life is unequal. At least you are giving hope and a spark to those who may not have much, and it seems that their previous teachers have done the same. You do make a difference, every day to them, God bless you for that, even though I don’t believe in a God. Have a wonderful Christmas Rob and know that many of us will be thinking of you. Where will you be?

Good to hear your news and adventures. The poverty is very hard to watch – it should be an island of enough for all… but you have hinted at the reasons. I think we talked about this before you left.
I don’t do prayer I’m afraid, but my thoughts are with you and all the people you help.
Janice

Robert!
Thanks for getting in touch, great to hear from you! I trust you are still inspiring some great students? Jackfruit curry…hmm might be hard to find as fayre here is a little plainer but still yummy. Non-mass produced food is so tasty!
